Welcome to Sedgewell Cove Class
The Class Teacher is Mr Jan Bosence, with teaching assistants Mrs Wendy Sullivan and Mrs Sian Fenton-Jones
Spelling homework will be sent home each Friday (in the back of your child's red reading journal) Spellings will be monitored each Thursday during class time, this will also be in the back of your child's reading journal.
We would very much value you reading with your child regularly at home and writing this in the front section of the reading journal. Please do read and talk about the book, characters, plot etc with your child.
Maths homework can be found on your child's active learn login page (Login details have been issued separately). Your child will also have access to hands on maths games from a selection in the classroom. Children in both year 2 and 3 should also be spending some time learning their times tables at home as this is such a valuable skill in all mathematics work.
Topic homework (for year 3 children) will take the form of a choice of projects. The deadlines for projects will be in the weekly newsletter..
Class 2 have been working on developing their gymnastic skills. They have been looking at key skills of stretch, balance, point, straight, timing and mirroring. They have also thought about using different levels and different pathways in their work. Have a look and see what you think.
Autumn Term 2014 overview for Class 2
In English we will be linking our fictional and creative writing work around the stories of Mouse and Mole. We will be looking at character and story structure. Our trip to Saltram will be linked closely with this – as Mouse and Mole visit Saltram along with us!
In non-fiction we will be looking at information about the lives and work of various portrait artists. We will be learning to take notes and then to turn notes into reports. Our aim is to write a non-fiction book of our own about a chosen artist.
In English we will also be learning about English Grammar, looking at sentences, verbs, nouns, word choices and punctuation. We will also be continuing our work on phonics, learning various letter combinations and sounds, linking this with spellings.
In maths we will be looking at place value, number bonds, addition and subtraction, counting beyond 100, multiplication with groups of 2 and 3 and simple sharing and division, money skills and time. It would be very useful if you did regular maths related activities with your child at home; such as telling the time at various points in the day, counting various objects around the house, handling money etc.
In science we will be learning about our bodies and keeping healthy.
In ICT we will be continuing our use of word and effective presentation of our work. We will also be looking at coding and computer programming.
Art & Technology
Our art work will be linked to our English work on character and portrait. We will also be learning about and improving our skills of using colour, tone and shape.
We will be having PE sessions twice a week where we will be having out door games and indoor gymnastics and dance sessions. On days that we do not have PE we will have a short active session such as skipping or aerobics.
In November we will be having an RE focus week when we will be considering the question “What Price Peace?” This is linked to the 100 year commemorations for World War 1. We will be considering religious attitudes to war and peace as well as the part we have to play in the Peace of our world.
Mrs Laurence King is a keen singer and will be singing frequently and engaging with a variety of music with class 2! Mrs Dawe will be getting out the instruments and having fun making music with the class!
